Encompassing millions of hectares of Brazil , Paraguay and Bolivia , it is certainly it is the world's largest interior wetland systems. There are 650 species of birds and 80 species of mammals. It contains perhaps the second most diverse range of plant and animal wildlife within its confines. The Pantanal is fantastic! From monkeys to diverse species of birds, butterflies, alligators, fish, anaconda, and flowers, the Pantanal has it all. There are even some endangered species such as the hyacinthine macaw and some jaguar species. There will be some exploration of the rivers for those choosing inns located near one of the rivers. The inns (pousadas) are somewhat rustic and simple, but can certainly find pousadas with a/c and private bathrooms. You may very well get one with a pool. The Pantanal pousadas usually provide a small typical Brazilian buffet style lunch and dinner (rice, bean, fish, beef, vegetables, fruits of the regions, juices, etc). Breakfast is mostly fruits, bread, butter, cakes, coffee, juices and perhaps other simple items. You will also get to explore the land areas of the Pantanal on horseback (with a private guide if you like). The horses are only the strongest and best suited for the terrain. Special care is taken to replace horses frequently with fresh, rested ones for safety's sake. We will have to make special arrangements to have a translator, as the vast majority of guides speak only Portuguese.
