The New York Times made their Monday nightlife famous, but Fortaleza
parties from Monday to Sunday all year long, Fortaleza is rich in
tradition with much emphasis on culture. Since the 19th century, the
city has many cultural institutions. The oldest is the Ceara Institutes,
it was established in 1887. Their research includes historical, geographical,
and anthropological layers.
Fortaleza means Fortress and is famous for being in the first state
(Ceara) to abolish slavery. Fortaleza is the capital city of the state
of Ceara; it is a fast growing tourism destination and a major fishing
port. Matais Beck, a Dutchman is credited with Founding Fortaleza
in the 17th – century when he constructed the schoonemboreh
Fortress. In the the center of the City, there are few interesting
Colonial building. The Mercado Central and the Cathedral are the major
sight in the area.
