Porto de Galinhas - Ipojuca
Located at 60 km form the city
of Recife, in the town of Ipojuca, the district of Porto de
Galinhas became one of the most sought tourist destinations
in Brazil. The paradisiacal landscapes of its ten beaches
and the occurrence of sunshine more than three hundred days
a year make the place the ideal destination for those who
wants to relax or practice sports such as diving and
surfing.
Generally speaking, the
beaches of Porto de Galinhas have transparent calm waters,
huge coconut trees, and fine while sands. The natural
swimming pools that are formed on the beaches is the best
option for relaxing swimming, especially for the children,
who will find several species of colored fish in its waters.
Those who love sports such as surfing, windsurfing, and
diving also find in this beach the perfect place to practice
them. The beaches of Muro Alto, Cupe, and Maracaípe, as well
as Santo Aleixo Island, offer the best options, with their
stronger taller waves.
Another attraction in Porto de
Galinhas area the growths of mangroves, that compose almost
60 km (37.28 mi.) of vegetation on the beaches of the Pontal
de Maracaípe and Camboa. The rides on the swamp can be done
on foot, or in kayaks and rafts, accompanied by local
guides. There it is possible to see animal species such as
crabs, oysters, aratus (small crabs, of squarish shape), and
guaiamus (Cardisoma guanhumi, type of crab, typically found
in growths of mangroves). Those who arrive in the area soon
hear about the gigantic baobab, too. It is a tree that is
more than 400 years old, located in the district of Nossa
Senhora do Ó. The baobab was planted by black slaves, and
its trunk is so thick that it takes 20 adults to fully
embrace it.
From September to March, the
real stars of Porto de Galinhas are the sea turtles. The
species gests to the area to lay its eggs, and the nests are
located between the areas of Pontal de Maracaípe and the
beach Muro Alto. In each nest approximately 120 eggs are
laid, and the birth of the nestlings happens at night.
Besides its attractions to be enjoyed during the day, Porto
de Galinhas is absolutely charming at night, too. One of the
most visited places is the Vila de Todos os Santos (All
Saints' Village), an important gastronomical center located
on the beach of Maracaípe. There we find the best options
for those who can not live without the finest cuisine. For
those who prefer dancing, the best place to go to are the
nightclubs and bars of Porto de Galinhas, generally
featuring live music.
In Porto de Galinhas there are also many stores that sell
craft pieces made in the area. The materials used to make
them are typical from the Northeast of Brazil and portray
the culture of the people from the state of Pernambuco.
Beaches:
Gamboa
Located North to Porto de Galinhas, Gamboa is a beach of
unique beauty. The area is almost wild, surrounded by
coconut trees, and it has clear warm waters that form
natural swimming pools, perfect for swimming and bathing.
Muro Alto (Tall Wall)
The beautiful high bank of sand and coconut trees lent its
name to the beach, whose access is only possibly by buggy.
Reefs, natural swimming pools, and the breeze from the coast
of the state of Pernambuco complete the beauty of that
beach, where the resorts of Porto de Galinhas are located.
Cupe
Cupe is a good option for leisure in Porto de Galinhas. Its
strong waves are the meeting point of the local surfers, who
frequently organize their competitions there. On that beach,
formed by compacted sands, tourists find most of the hotels
of the area.
Porto de Galinhas
The beach of Porto de Galinhas is simply perfect for those

Maracaípe, where the waters of the river and the waters of
the see meet, composing the perfect atmospheres for a raft,
speed boat, or kayak ride, besides its many trails and the
calm waters that are an invitation for swimming. Also, those
who visit the Pontal can not fail to visit the Projeto
Hippocampus to know more about the habitat of the sea horse.
Enseadinha (Little Bay)
Reefs and corals form the famous natural swimming pools of
that beach, with calm waters and short weak waves, perfect
for swimming.
Pontal de Serrambi (Serrambi’s End)
For those who want to see the wonders of the bottom of the
sea, the waters of the Pontal do Serrambi are simply
perfect, for not only are they crystal clear, but there are
also many shipwrecks in the area, which are inhabited by
many different marine species. At 100 meters (328.08 feet)
from the beach, the great coral formation offers surfers
huge waves.
Cacimbas
On the beach of Cacimbas there is a formation of sandstone
reefs, which has nearly 50 meters (164.04 feet) of width,
and thus, during the high tide, there is the formation of a
large natural swimming pool of warm waters in the place.
Small caves sculpted by the waters of the sea and an
extensive stretches covered with coconut trees complete the

Toquinho
Quite similar to the Muro Alto Beach because of the
formation of the reef barrier, the Toquinho beach has yet
another natural attraction: the encounter of the waters of
the sea with the waters of the Sirinhaém River. Strong
waves, compressed sands, and stretches covered with coconut
trees compose the scenery. From Toquinho it is possible to

the area for the practice of diving.
